Dr. Barton, informed by fifteen years of experience in biochemical research, assists with preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the U.S. and foreign countries, patentability assessments, and freedom to operate and patent infringement opinions.

With over fifteen years in biochemical research ranging from academic, government and start-up chemical experiences, Kelly moved into intellectual property after becoming involved in patent strategy and prosecution with outside counsel during her time at a start-up chemical company.
Kelly’s broad research background and technical dexterity has allowed her to support clients in diverse fields of technology including genetic engineering, antibodies, fusion protein conjugates, medical diagnostics, carbohydrate chemistry, agricultural chemicals and products, colorants, flavorings, food & dairy ingredients and products, small molecule therapeutics and formulations, methods of disease treatment, polymers, catalysts, electrochemistry, molecular diagnostics, and biophysical research tools by preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the U.S. and foreign countries; assessing patentability, freedom to operate, and infringement positions; and reviewing and strategizing on client patent portfolios, while applying her knowledge and taking into consideration venture and start-up demands and lifecycles.
